About Harvard Invitational

Held at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the tournament features multiple divisions and debate formats, representing the pinnacle of high school competitive debate.

Atlantic Ivy's 2026 Performance: 50% Break Rate
Atlantic Ivy achieved a historic 50% break rate at Harvard Invitational 2026, with 5 of our 10 competing teams advancing to elimination rounds. This performance significantly exceeds the 20-30% break rate typically achieved by top private schools and established debate programs.
Competition Scale:
- 772+ total teams across all divisions
- 233 teams in Junior Varsity (466 speakers)
- 262 teams in Novice division
- 277 teams in Middle School (554 speakers)
Key Achievements
Quarterfinalist Placement: Atlantic Ivy team advanced to Top 8 in Junior Varsity division, finishing 5th in preliminary rounds with a 5-1 record.

Why This Matters
Exceeding Industry Standards: A 50% break rate at Harvard Invitational places Atlantic Ivy students among the top tier of competitive debaters globally. Most established programs consider a 20-30% break rate successful.
Comprehensive Excellence: Success across all three divisions - Junior Varsity, Novice, and Middle School - demonstrates the effectiveness of Atlantic Ivy's structured curriculum and coaching methodology.
Sustained Success: This achievement builds on Atlantic Ivy's 2025 Harvard performance, where students became the first GCC team to break at Harvard and earned the Top International Speaker Award.
