Questions Parents Ask

Yes—most of our students start shy, and that's exactly why they're here. Our small class sizes (6-10 students) and supportive environment let children build confidence at their own pace, and parents typically see a noticeable difference within 4-6 weeks. We start with games, storytelling, and low-pressure activities before any "real" speaking, so children are participating and having fun before they realize they're practicing public speaking. Because every child speaks in every class, quieter students get consistent, gentle practice rather than hiding at the back, and coaches match their feedback to each child's comfort level. For our youngest students (ages 5-6), the Introduction to Public Speaking course is built entirely around speech games and confidence-building. If you're unsure how your child will respond, book a free trial class—they'll join a real session with no commitment required.

We accept students from age 5, with a structured pathway for every stage after that. Starting young builds confidence before anxiety sets in: our 5-6 year olds learn through storytelling and games in Introduction to Public Speaking—no pressure, just fun—finishing with a 4-minute capstone speech. Ages 7-9 move into Introduction to Public Speaking II with impromptu challenges and basic debate; ages 9-10 take Fundamentals of Public Speaking & Debate, covering speech structure and constructing arguments; and from ages 10-12 and 13-18, students can join Junior and Senior Debate Academy, which add rhetoric, research, and competitive debate formats. Older students (10+) can start anytime and catch up quickly with our structured curriculum—no prior experience is needed. If you're unsure which level fits, a free trial class lets the coach assess your child and recommend the right starting point.

Drama teaches performance and character work; we teach real-world communication: how to structure an argument, present ideas clearly, and think on your feet. Our curriculum covers speech structure, storytelling, body language, voice, and impromptu speaking, and older students add debate skills such as constructing arguments and refutation. These skills directly transfer to school presentations, oral exams, interviews, and eventually careers—situations where your child speaks as themselves rather than playing a role. The format differs too: instead of rehearsing a scripted show, students write and deliver their own speeches, culminating in capstone presentations such as a 4-minute Ted Talk, and receive individual coaching feedback in small classes of 6-10 students. Many of our students do both, and the two complement each other well—drama builds stage comfort, while our classes build the thinking and structure behind what your child actually says.
