Introduction to Lincoln Douglas Debate
Lincoln Douglas Debate is a one-on-one debate format focused on values and philosophy. Named after the famous 1858 debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, this format emphasizes moral and ethical argumentation rather than policy. Students learn to construct value-based cases, engage with philosophical frameworks, and defend positions on justice, morality, and individual rights. This course prepares students for LD tournaments and develops critical thinking skills applicable far beyond debate.
