Tournament FAQ

What debate tournaments does Atlantic Ivy attend?

Atlantic Ivy enters the world's leading high school debate competitions: the Harvard National Invitational in Cambridge, Massachusetts (4,000+ competitors from 15+ countries), the Yale Invitational, the Oxford Schools Debating Competition, the Cambridge ICYD Finals Day, and a season-long calendar of online World Schools and British Parliamentary events such as the Australasian Juniors, Bristol Schools and the Penn World Schools Invitational. Each tournament uses a different format, so our preparation is tailored to the specific event. Every tournament we enter this season is listed on this page with sign-up through us. At the Harvard Invitational 2026, Atlantic Ivy students achieved a 50% break rate, with 5 of 10 teams reaching elimination rounds, a Junior Varsity quarterfinalist and multiple Top Speaker awards.

Who can join an Atlantic Ivy tournament entry?

Tournament entries are open to students aged 11 to 18 who are enrolled in Atlantic Ivy debate programs, and to new families after a short call with a coach to pick the right event and division. Prior competitive experience is helpful but not required for every division: major tournaments run novice and junior varsity divisions alongside varsity, so a well-prepared first-time competitor has a genuine path to compete (our 2026 Harvard squad included a Junior Varsity quarterfinalist). What matters more than experience is preparation: every entry includes coaching before the rounds, and in-person trips add an intensive bootcamp and on-site support. Places are limited and offered to enrolled students first, so speak to a coach early in the semester.

What is included when we sign up through Atlantic Ivy?

Every online tournament entry includes coaching by our experts before the rounds, tournament registration and the judge requirement handled by us, and written feedback after the rounds. In-person trips such as the Harvard National Invitational are all-inclusive: round-trip flights, hotel accommodation, meals, tournament registration and 70+ hours of coaching combining weekly online preparation with an in-person bootcamp, then on-site support from Atlantic Ivy coaches throughout the competition with between-round feedback, case adjustments and strategy for elimination rounds. Coaches also manage the practical side of an international trip, from travel logistics to daily schedules. Families already enrolled with us receive a discount on tournament entries.

What debate formats are used at these tournaments?

The formats match each tournament's tradition. The Harvard and Yale Invitationals run Public Forum and World Schools divisions; Oxford Schools uses British Parliamentary (BP); and the Cambridge ICYD uses the World Schools (WSDC) format. This is why format-specific preparation matters: a student trained in only one style cannot simply walk into a different competition. Atlantic Ivy teaches all of these formats year-round. Most GCC students start with World Schools, then add Public Forum or British Parliamentary depending on which tournaments they target, and each entry's preparation drills the exact format, speech times and judging criteria of that event. Our coaches specialise by format, several having competed or judged at world-championship level.

How do I sign up for a tournament?

Pick the tournament in the season list on this page and click Register. You add each student, we check eligibility against the tournament's age and grade rules, and you pay by card at checkout. Tournaments marked Interest list or Invitation only take an expression of interest instead, and we contact you as soon as places are confirmed. If you are not sure which event or division suits your child, book a 20-minute call with a coach first. Early registration is strongly recommended: spots fill quickly, and an earlier commitment means your child gets the full benefit of the preparation program rather than joining it midway. Once registered, we handle tournament registration, partner matching and, for in-person trips, flights, hotel and meals, and parents receive the full itinerary and preparation schedule well before the event.

What results has Atlantic Ivy achieved at tournaments?

At the Harvard Invitational 2026, Atlantic Ivy achieved a 50% break rate: 5 of our 10 teams advanced to elimination rounds at a tournament with over 4,000 competitors from 15+ countries. The squad also recorded a Quarterfinalist placement in the Junior Varsity division and multiple Top Speaker awards. Breaking at Harvard means finishing ahead of most of the field at the world's largest high school invitational, and a 50% team break rate is an exceptional result for any program. Beyond Harvard, our students have accumulated 500+ tournament wins and regularly place at Stanford, Yale, Oxford and Cambridge competitions. These results follow directly from the preparation structure: 70+ hours of coaching per trip and format-specific training all semester. Full season results are published on this page.
